The Knowledge Network on Climate Assemblies (KNOCA) aims to improve the commissioning, design, implementation and impact of climate assemblies, using evidence, knowledge exchange and dialogue. We are an active community of policy makers, practitioners, activists, researchers and other actors with experience and interest in climate assemblies who co-create activities and knowledge.
Policy Actors’ Attitudes to Climate Assemblies
How do key political actors perceive the role of citizens' assemblies in shaping climate policy in Europe? What are the perceived main barriers and opportunities for greater use and stronger influence of climate assemblies? How to respond to different forms of reluctance and resistance to climate assemblies among key actors in climate governance?
During the spring of 2022, KNOCA ran four knowledge development projects. In the following, the first results regarding climate policy actors' knowledge of and attitudes towards climate assemblies are presented. The presentation was followed by a panel discussion with climate policy advisors, civil society experts and policy makers on the findings, including misunderstandings and knowledge gaps, as well as barriers and strategic opportunities for climate assemblies in the context of European climate policy. The panel was followed by a discussion on the implications of the findings for KNOCA's future work.
