The Knowledge Network on Climate Assemblies (KNOCA) aims to improve the commissioning, design, implementation and impact of climate assemblies, using evidence, knowledge exchange and dialogue. We are an active community of policy makers, practitioners, activists, researchers and other actors with experience and interest in climate assemblies who co-create activities and knowledge.
KDP4 Workshop 1 - How Policy systems affect delivery of citizens' assemblies
Time
Understanding how citizens' assemblies relate to and influence policy is an important element in understanding how this approach can have an impact. In this workshop, we briefly explored the three phases of a citizens' assembly from the perspective of people who make policy. We wanted to understand how assemblies can feed into the policy process and what support policy officials need to ensure they are useful. Using a case study of a climate-related assembly, we explored the role of policy makers in this process:
- The establishment of a citizens' assembly
- how they are involved in the assembly process
- reviewing and responding to the assembly's recommendations.
